Gateshead from Newcastle's Moot Hall in 1835, by JW Carmichael. In the background is the wilderness of Gateshead Fell. Interesting to think the bridge (today the site of the Swing Bridge) was the only crossing place between the two towns until the High Level Bridge opened in 1849
