I feel like society tapped into the very real fear of the ocean depths with these horror movies. When you witness aquatic life floating through that impenetrable darkness, it feels like something truly alien here on earth.
BOTTOM 4 FIRST-TIME WATCHES:
• Morbius
• Grizzly II: Revenge
• Choose or Die
• Umma
It’s a stretch to include Choose or Die and Umma here. They’re “meh” at worst.
LOWLIGHTS:
Operation Kid Brother, Girl in Gold Boots, Zaat, The Girl in Lovers Lane, Scarecrow County, The Hidden, and Daddy-O
In fairness, only two of those weren’t Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes.
Looking for some great silent horror cinema? A more obscure title I’d recommend is THE MAGICIAN (1926) starring Paul Wegener (the Golem in the GOLEM trilogy). There’s a hearty helping of occult shenanigans as well an eerie gothic castle and a sequence in Hell.
RATING: 7/10
Today for 31 NIGHTS OF #HORROR, we're looking at a little movie called DAWN OF THE DEAD. Maybe you've heard of it.
Read my review of George Romero's classic zombie flick here: https://t.co/wGhUOcZJde
How do YOU think DAWN stacks up against Romero's other zombie flicks?
THE PLAGUE OF ZOMBIES (1966) — Easily one of my favorite standalone Hammer horror films. Creepy and fast-paced!
RATING: 👍🏻👍🏻
VAMPIRE CIRCUS (1972) — A weirder, bloodier Hammer offering that lacks in tension, but has plenty of spectacle to go around.
RATING: 👍🏻👍🏻
