Today in 52 BCE Vercingetorix, King of the Gauls, surrenders to the Romans under Julius Caesar, ending the siege & battle of Alesia. Though it would take 2 more years to secure the new province this was effectively the end of the Gallic Wars. Soon Caesar would cross the Rubicon.

Today in 455, Rome is sacked by the Vandals. This was the third of four ancient sacks of the city and was conducted because of a war started by the usurping Western Roman Emperor Petronius Maximus. (Thread)
