The creature's hand runs gently along the edge of his trapped wing, picking out delicate traceries of veins. Then it withdraws, fingers glistening with green and brown dusty moth-scales.
It licks the scales off its fingers, croaking

He’s not in any hospital bed. He’s in a cage. A low, cramped cage; the sort that a large dog might travel in. He’s resting on a matted surface, but the rest is made up of iron bars.
The wintery, cold sensation floods his senses, raising goosebumps and turning his stomach.
He doesn’t even feel the bite, just a numbness creeping up his limb and spreading through his body as he struggles. The woman hops off the counter and kneels down on the slowly-flooding floor to caress his cheek.
"You didn't think I'd lose you so easily, did you?"
Lloyd can’t see what she’s doing, but he can feel it - her hands on the tight strip of cloth wound around his chest and shoulders, pulling, and a snap, followed by the stretch of cramped muscles...
...as a pair of grey-green moth wings bursts free from their wrappings.
Next Friday we drop part 1 of the final chapter of Chrysalis. All Lloyd's questions are about to be answered, but is he ready to know the truth? Subscribe and find out! https://t.co/NgwmbG7osW

He shoves her away, spots dancing in his eyes as he claps a hand to the injury... the feeling of blood seeping between his fingers.
