The story of Dragon Quest Builders is the end result of what happens when the Hero from Dragon Quest 1 agrees to Dragonlord’s offer of ruling half of the world.

Because of this, DQ1’s Hero is currently the first (and only) Hero who became a villain in a spin-off series.
