So what some artists will do is lighten the hard light colors some more to avoid having a muddy saturated mess, and what we get next is.... this. Like, technically its a skin tone but we've whitewashed her a bit and we've lost the original value
So we've got our two girls. Most tutorials for this technique use white skin as a base, so most people learn to use 'base skin tone but slightly lighter/desaturated' on a hard light layer. However when you do this on black skin you notice straight away it doesnt work
So idk how many people know but moooost comic colorists will use a super fast technique that basically involves cutting out huge swathes of canvas with the lasso tool and lightening them on a layer mode. So you start with the darkest skin tone and work from there
