Her hair is actually this purply-red color too, just for reference of how much the helmet skews colors.
The helmet is actually a nod towards colorblindness in general, since Vera can't see colors properly when she wears it.

It's kinda funny that I decided Vera's helmet makes her skin appear cyan, due to how blue the glass is
