Browsing bootleg #StarTrek manga online and I *love* how much slash-fiction self-published stories the Kelvin Timeline movies have inspired: loads of Spock/Kirk (obviously) but also McCoy/Sulu ("Blue, Yellow, Blue" is a great title) and McCoy/Khaaaaaaaaaan.
This absolutely beautiful original cel from Kiki's Delivery Service just sold for 475,000 yen (approx. US$4300) at an online auction house based in Japan. Quite a thrill (and a disappointment) to see how quickly and powerfully I was outbid. It's an incredible piece.
A random assemblage of impressive Kiki's Delivery Service fan art. Pieces by Eun-pyon, Kittycouch, Vyrhus, and f-fin.
I'm watching the 1994 #FinalFantasy anime right now, which I bought on VHS but then realised it'd be vastly easier to watch on YouTube. It's very much of its time (and I have huge nostalgia for mid-90s badly-dubbed OVAs), with slapstick, fanservice, and some charming heroics.
Chapter 12 of #TheMandalorian is a genuine thrill. It's a perfectly-composed remix of all the elements that made the first season so popular: stoic heroics, shootouts, a great speeder chase sequence, aerial combat, and cute baby antics. Love the focus on the supporting cast, too.
@FilmEssaying Ooh, thanks for the link. I think a Western release for the Kiki vinyl(s) is inevitable. Both the OST and Image Album were re-released on vinyl in Japan in March. I have neither - it seems like a step too far in my obsessive collecting, to buy something I'll literally never play!
Really exciting time right now for Korean webtoons in Japan. This year has seen two online manhwa series adapted as incredibly popular anime: Lee Jonghui (aka S.I.U.)'s TOWER OF GOD and Park Yongje's THE GOD OF HIGH SCHOOL. I do hope the trend continues.
