Thanks to funding received through @Aimuseums and @ThePilgrimTrust, @TheEgyptCentre was able to work with @CUConservation and @LingleMeeklah to conserve this Amarna vessel excavated by @TheEES. This vessel is now on display in the Amarna case, with a new text panel next to it!
Happy to announce that my next short course, which starts 3 weeks today, will be on the Amarna Period. This course will present a slightly different spin on things by focusing heavily on the 300 objects from Amarna in @TheEgyptCentre collection. Book here: https://t.co/CXAkIYjgZ8
Photo from the Dixon archive showing five Bes pots in the Wellcome Collection. Spot @TheEgyptCentre one second from right. Purchased from the MacGregor collection in 1922. Who has the others?
Yesterday I spent the day photographing some of the Meroitic material in @TheEgyptCentre, which originate from the excavations of John Garstang. They were given to Henry Wellcome, a sponsor of the excavation, around 1911. Here's a nice offering table found in tomb 307 at Meroe.
