Spirit drawings from Samuel Guppy’s Mary Jane (1863) ✏️💫 Apparently ‘No colours nor pencils were put under the table - nothing but the paper.’

After an evening of seances notice was given via a oujia board "Look under the table" & the drawings were found- what talented spirits!

Argonauta or paper nautilus shells (egg sacs secreted by cephalopod females) were known as fairy boats in the Isle of Man. They were said to race across Lough Gur on moonlit nights.

Amelia Jane Murray’s ‘A Fairy Resting on a Shell’ (1800–1896) depicts such a scene. 🐚✨
