Models of how CalC interacts with CCM suggest the sugars bind within a central pocket of the protein, while the sacrificial peptide bond resides on a loop which is positioned to interact with the radical portion of CCM (A & B) (PDB: 2L65).

Very cool digital rendering of DNA interstrand crosslinks (red sticks) and the DNA repair enzyme (YcaQ; red blob) we characterized performing unhooking of those ICLs (yellow sticks).
