John VIII Palaiologos (1392 – 1448)
Was the byzantine emperor from 1425 to 1448.
The eldest son of Manuel II, he faced the advances of sultan Murad II and lost several provinces to the turks and venetians, he made two journeys to Italy to secure western support, but failed.
