I dabbled in spiritng before, but it's a little too frustrating compared to straight up drawing. Still, I tired a pixel experiment back in 2017 with Adobe Fireworks. I wanted to harness the power of subpixels in a way I could easily understand. I'm not sure if I'll revisit this.
I spent most of the day working on this mock up through lag and the like. Even then, I'm still not ready...
There! Taking out the remaining outlines was torture, but here is the completed staircase in all its glory!
..... Just three or four more to go...

I understand this looks more crude than the previous version, but this is an experiment for planning textures. Tomorrow, I'll create a nicer version in Fireworks.
By the way, the Mario "graffiti" will not be in the final texture. It's there for scaling reasons as usual.
While it looks complete, don't be fooled! I wanna try something interesting with the textures this time around. I'll post the results later today if I'm finished by then.
By the way, this took a little longer than expected because I lost my progress on the UVs today. Lovely...
Don't be alarmed! The Mario faces and the upside-down staircase are how I'm working out the UVs! I still have more to it than these (including modeling them), so I really have my work cut out for me!
There's a bit left left to sort out, but I got this update together just in case I ran out of things to work on. You can even get a better view of the incomplete skybox.

Not much is new, but I further worked with the grass for the cliffside. The Captain liked this variation, which is why it's here now. Also, it's hard to notice from here, but I altered the dirt that's "under" the path.
At last! All the hills are in place! I'll be sure to showcase a better look of each one the next time I create a major update. Stay tuned!
I really took care of the road this time! Still need to work out some details, but I have enough for a major update now!
