Happy 64th Birthday to artist Thomas Yeates, born #OTD in Sacramento, CA. This is my favorite work of his, an #ERB portrait with accurate depictions of the author's great series (clockwise): Barsoom, Amtor, Tarzan, the War Chief, and Pellucidar.

@jogginsboy @frazettagirls The maid? Yes. The "va-gas"? No. That creature is often pictured as centaur-like but in the book is a quadraped who could used his fore-limbs either as legs or as arms and hands. #ERB drew what he intended. Chris Peuler followed suit for the SWORDS AGAINST THE MOON MEN cover art.

In 1975, Doubleday published an edition of #ERB's SWORDS OF MARS and SYNTHETIC MEN OF MARS with Frank #Frazetta cover art. Last year @frazettagirls tweeted a detail of the cover art's #JohnCarter image.
