Even the “simplest” character design, Skelly, has the absolutely delightful touch of having Charon’s obol in his mouth. ”Charon’s obol” is a coin placed in the mouth of the dead as payment for Charon to ferry them across the Styx.

A neat detail I really like; the Red Mage job icon in FFXIV has elements of both the Black and White Mage job icons. The White Mage’s staff becomes the blade and handle of a rapier, while the Black Mage’s meteor becomes part of the guard.
