@jholbo1 @KevinMKruse And it was actually much more 'unsorted' in the decades prior. This illustration from 1912 shows warring factions of Republicans trying to determine the direction the party will take. The cloud of "RADICALISM" is Senator Robert La Follette, the firebrand progressive leader.
