Not all phages kill their hosts, some inject DNA and piggyback bacteria as they grow and divide. phage can help their bacterial hosts: making them stronger or deadly, we check our phage's DNA to ensure they don't make bacteria into superbugs. #Phage #SciArt #GlobalScienceShow
I'll take a quick break from the science to bring you a bacteria-guinea pig cross. The science will resume shortly #GlobalScienceShow #guineapig #SciArt
Great talk on desert microbes and their phages by Thulani Makhalanyane for #UnityInDiversity yesterday. Getting used to sketching while listening to talks so I don't get distracted (any mention of phages stops that!). https://t.co/Pi9178pZXs
Day 13, Dune #Inktober. It’s 2020 and the prompt word was Dune, so just some massive phage-worm thing. Also, in arid soils there is a much higher ratio of phages to bacterial genomes, is it due to a better survival of phages or just their genomes in these environments? #SciArt
Day 2, Wisp. The bacteriophages or phage I work with often seem like ethereal wisps, is it a bubble, dirt or phage plaque on my agar plate? So difficult to observe directly we just look for areas where bacteria have been killed. #inktober2020 #sciart #Sciartober
@MotherOfPhage Feel free to send them a picture with their treatment if you like!
Day 3 of #Inktober, Bait. Bacteria distracting phages with vesicles, hopefully not too tenuous. #inktober2019 #bacteria #bacteriophage #sciart
We are working in partnership with the Warwick Antimicrobial Discovery Facility to test phages as antimicrobials https://t.co/7SbxCIZSnx Please get in contact if you are interested.
