One of Maurice Sendak's artistic idols was William Blake. Not only did Sendak illustrate an edition of Songs of Innocence, but the art in his own My Brother's Book was deeply shaped in style by Blake's.

As a child, I understood that the natural world was enchanted. Every time I played in the wood, I grasped there was a deep magic there. Despite teachers & adults trying to tell me otherwise, I have retained that belief. For me, the world is full of wonders.
