In Greek myth the goddess Iris was Keeper of the Rainbow & messenger to the gods. She led the souls of dead women to the Elysian Fields. Purple irises were laid on the graves of dead women by mourners to facilitate her mission.

#FolkloreThursday In maritime lore a sea monster, the Kraken is said to lie at the bottom of the sea. Only surfacing in search of food or if disturbed. By wrapping its huge tentacles it is able to capture whole ship, pulling them down into the depths of the sea.
