@mykebartlett Arnold Lobel’s Owl is wonderful for children (my son adored Owl) and I think it works on a different, melancholic level for adults - all the stories are about figuring out life while being alone.
Ghost stories in Australian middle-grade: a little cluster in 2022. Why do we love them? Neil Gaiman said: "Fear is a wonderful thing, in small doses. You ride the ghost train into the darkness, knowing that eventually the doors will open..." #LoveOzMG
Treated myself to Letters From Robin by Jon Appleton - a portrait of Robin Klein - out next month. Beloved by so many Australian authors (see Text Classics from 2017). And by me once I got to know Australian children's books (fave: People Might Hear You). https://t.co/5io9gao6GZ
3. Georgia Ward-Fear, reptile biologist and explorer - read all about her adventures and discoveries in a book written by @SaxbyClaire
Also love to see a whole squad of #LoveOzMG time-slips: The Secret Library of Hummingbird House by Julianne Negri, The Boy Who Stepped Through Time by Anna Ciddor (June '21), Heroes of the Secret Underground by Susanne Gervay, and Elsewhere Girls by Bert & Ernie.
There are 3 books in this series already available and more on the way. They've been written by a whole bunch of middle-grade authors to tell the true life stories of Australian STEM stars from childhood to present day. Brilliant idea from @WildDingoPress https://t.co/o9OkvTj3Kd
When does Amie Kaufman sleep?! Incredible, a new middle-grade series called The World Between Blinks, featuring an accidental slip into another world which is, frankly, the only way to slip, along with the time-slip. Out Feb 3rd. #LoveOzMG
FEBRUARY: for fans of Murder Most Unladylike, here's The Detective's Guide to Ocean Travel by Nicki Greenberg, which has the most exquisite cover. A whodunnit set on an ocean liner in the 1920s. Can't wait. (Feb 23rd to be precise)
Remy Lai has a winning combination of novel and graphic novel in last year's Pie in the Sky and this year's Fly on the Wall. https://t.co/AdrpwhWxRW
You will not find as much energy in a single human being as you'll find in Nat Amoore, a fantastic ambassador for Australian kidlit and the author of these two funny books: https://t.co/mJYFcXQzbh
