Okay, one more thing: so far we've seen Roger command Big O and then Big O act on its own--but for Big O to command Roger? An interesting dynamic for sure, especially contrast against how Alex collects and commands his megadeuses for power and power alone.
This turmoil is compounded further when Roger arrives, ignores Angel, and declares that RDW is "safe now" after promising that she'll be repaired. Angel hears this and jumps away--and Dorothy smiles?
The part that always stuck with me about this scene is how... stricken Angel is at this fact. Her eyes obscured and in heavy shadow, her hair disheveled, and her mouth in a grimace: she's in considerable pain at this reality
A substantial piece of this episode is the culmination of Angel's gaslighting of Roger. We see Angel invite Roger to confide in her; to find comfort in her ("Are we on the same side [yes, we are]"), and we see her actively pushing for their relationship to change
And it's not just Dorothy that Freddy envies but Phil and Bowman, too. It's upsetting to see what Freddy desires which is what he'll be stripped of once his mission is completed.
--speaks volumes to R. Frederick's hidden desires and subdued free will--but he also knows that since his mission is over he's going to be debriefed/memories copied and then shut down and stored away. Because he's just a tool no matter how strong his design for humanity is.
It's rather heartbreaking to hear R. Frederick tell R. Dorothy "you're a work of art" to then just sit in silent reflection when asked by RDW "and what does that make you?" and then respond "I simply exist to carry out missions" with a discernible note of lamentation.
