@TheBashNation This development started for him at the end of Resurrection F though. He wanted to participate in the U6 tournament to show off his training, no one told him about the Trunks situation until it was too late and then the US arc takes up half the series.

@kalenshadow He does like fighting though, just "not like his dad does", ie not to the death. He likes fighting for sport and will fight to protect. Even in Super you can see his excitement.

This is what happened to Gohan. Ultimate Gohan became useful and held his own. He's a strong, confident warrior who learned from past mistakes. He helped move the plot, gained good development and a power-up that wasn't wasted a handful of episodes later.
