This was thanks in part to their earliest forms being able to haul themselves onto land for a short period. This adaptation benefited them in a world that was fluctuating in a cycle of wet flooded continents and the resulting marshlands drying up.

Yes in this world "plants" move switching between using digestive enzymes to decompose matter, or slithering to a sunny spot before ejecting their filaments to collect sunlight and carbon dioxide

Yeah i'm sold on Malzeno's design. Maybe it's cause it's an elder and we tend to possibly be a LITTLE more forgiving towards outlandish designs from them-Idk. so heres a sketch
