Anyway this was more of a rant post because while I try to be positive and focus on good things I rather not be industry commentator 9000 who goes "THINGS ARE DOOMED" so enjoy the medium of comics and I hope one of my threads got you to look at something you like.
the fact is if you want to get into comics it's easier then you think start with a low stakes thing and go from there but I think that if comics is going to present better we need someone who can be an ambassador to readers and creators. Unfortunately the most well know one...
Guys I didn't realize mecha was unrealistic, for years I thought the shows with giant angel wings, BREST FIRES, robots made of dinosaurs, lightsabers, and robots voiced by Peter Cullen were the most realistic thing thanks GUY ON TWITTER FOR CORRECTING ME!
Man it's great to have a guy with no personality be Batroc, not like he's a fun talker who has an interesting history despite being ridiculous.
John Hickman for his part introduced new versions of NU characters in his Avengers run, Star Brand and Nightmask, Al Ewing also brought some in in his Ultimates run. So the universe is still around.
Warren Ellis was also brought in to make a new version of it that went nowhere because Warren Ellis just stopped working on it and didn't leave a game plan for people to finish it. I'm sure it's because he lost his hard drive. THAT DAMN HARD DRIVE!
Starbrand, DP7 at least seem like modern version of classic DC character Green Lantern and Doom Patrol. Later the New Universe would fold some stories into Quasar the Marvel book that made all the DC comics references.
@ningenapologue Yeah I would also look up Chip Zdarsky's Spider-man run as well if you want another good modern Spider-man run.
I would read Superior Foes of Spider-man first or with the run, since his Boomerang stuff starts here. It's a comedy book but a good one and very on point. Also I like it's ending despite it saying people would hate it!
Marvel first outright mainstream gay hero was Northstar. No doubt on that one but Chris Claremont often wrote his women bisexual so keep that in mind too.
