@quietmoths definitely nicer but still kind of weird imo. maybe combined with the line coloring it would look pretty sleek! it's just hard to wrap my head around b/c i do backgrounds and line coloring with contrast balance in mind but it's not impossible

i know twitter's going to crop this weird but every time i think about switching to a style closer to flats/min shading i fucking look at the difference between the "flats" stage and final version and i'm like "nevermind no fucking way the quality happens right here"

then i also try to just keep it in mind for spatial reasons.
