Turns out what I needed to get hooked to a roguelike was cheeky dialogue, amazing design, clear progression and a dog.

@ribbon_tail Oh, it's a publishing house formed by top-selling artists wanting to go independent and let authors keep the rights to their characters. It's a complicated story, but the style at first was hilariously over the top grim excess.
Then again, Takei was a comics fan at the time...

@loser_incarnate Hrrmm... I guess they overdid it a bit. Though the difference in voice actors plays a significant role in what could otherwise be chalked up to Ramba letting himself go and eating a lot during his stay in the desert. Hence why Hamon looks... identical.
