In biblical times, ashes were used to express grief. Tamar, David's daughter, raped by her half-brother, sprinkled ashes on her head & tore her robe. The gesture was also used to express sorrow for sins & was symbolic of the sinful self dying & returning to dust. #MythologyMonday
