this is the closest I've gotten to it working. it doesn't seem to be crashing, BUT... there's some kind of glitch near the word "The"

I think I fixed it

and there we go. With the fix to the palette ordering code, the screen border is now black instead of red.

OKAY THERE. the first dithering manually applied: the dark blue shadow under the legs is now a 50/50 blue-black checkerboard. Looks fine to me!
