Prequel stands apart, but I love it with all my heart: for atmosphere, characters and lots of details (for example, about creation of Lecter's memory halls). Of all hastily written books possible, this is the best!

I like the way Harris plays with characters: supposedly educated Dr. Chilton appears to be absolutely incompetent arrogant jerk, meanwhile simple orderly Barney turns out to be a well-read, intelligent guy who perfectly understood their prisoner.
