Carbonados are found in alluvial deposits; basically in former water deposits, and not in hard rock. They're also found in Brazil and Central African Republic, which may suggest that they were originally deposited during the time of Rodinia

This is a fun paper, they used synchrotron microtomography (essentially an X-ray powered by a synchrotron) to scan a piece of Triassic dino coprolite (poop) to 3D image all the beetles hanging out inside. https://t.co/2ti8IYipF2
