Chances are, they probably didn’t call an emergency meeting of the entire development team and declare that they need to draft up a contract with your show's name at the top and have it signed by you before the sun sets.

Be sure to thank them for their time - because, believe it or not, they’ve already invested money in you and your cartoon just by seeing you.

Time is the most valuable commodity there is, and they’ve just spent some on you. Be appropriately gracious.

Anything other than a “I love this idea!” and you’re looking at a “maybe” at best. “Interesting” is often code for “no.”

But, as I stated previously, you’re not just pitching a cartoon, you’re pitching yourself… so you need to maintain your composure no matter what.

Beyond that, however, you also don’t want to OVERWHELM the executives in your first meeting. These people see hundreds of pitches a week, and chances are, their time with you will be limited...

We will have a chapter on how to scope out places to pitch and how to best approach them and get that all-important pitch meeting, but first we want to make sure you’ve got your proverbial shit together.

Time to put together what I call a “Pitch Document.”

"How to convince the world that they’re wrong and you’re brilliant!"

And as far as CARTOONS go - my GOODNESS, it has never been easier to be an independent animator! Software exists! YouTube exists! Tell your stories! Never stop!

Consequently, I never honed it as a discipline - I merely enjoyed it the way most people do. I sing to Journey in my car and rap to ‘Baby got Back’ at karaoke, but that’s it.
