And none of this even speaks to the biggest professional change this year- hanging up my freelance spurs for the first time in a decade, and coming aboard full-time at @PhoenixLabs to develop totally new IP I’ve been putting my heart into with an incredible team!
In the spirit of the blessed day, here are some concepts I did early on for the Cheerlings for Netflix’s Scrooge movie! My idea was to base them on a variety of Christmas ornaments, which I think I may come back to in a different form some day later 🎄
Heck with it, borrowing the idea from Imogene Chayes and posting this until @ArtStationHQ pays attention and takes a stand
Loads of good suggestions! Some I may get to later, but I saw more than one for Freya Crescent from FF9 and I absolutely had to (reposting because I could NOT abide the typo in the name)
The ghost of Christmas Present! He brings such warmth to the story, and working on his design was a pleasure- I admit I didn’t quite understand where we were headed when he started to lean towards tinsel-inspired interdimensional traveler, but the result on screen was lots of fun
Christmas Past! I can’t believe how well she translated to film- huge kudos to the team for making the luminous wax material in concept come to life! In early sketches we explored elements like mirror shards, flickering light projection, and cabaret/Pierrot as influences https://t.co/mtLoCbjnXM
Time for Scroogeposting! The man himself!
Way back at the outset of the project he was one of the first characters I took a swing at- you can see my early takes were notably less dashing 😅
It’s the only time I’ve worked on dark green, but it really got me into the headspace
