Designed by architect Alexander Skirving and sculpted by James Young the column commemorates the Battle of Langside in 1568.

Battlefield Memorial and the former Langside Hill Free Church depicted on a colourised postcard, postmarked 1903. Both the church and 16 metre high column were designed by architect Alexander Skirving (who worked with Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson). Ref: P9711
