Interesting series of botanical paintings: 'Chinese drawings of plants, with their Chinese names', late 17th c., col of Sir Hans Sloane (linked w/ Cunninghame?), held @britishlibrary, recently digitised thanks to @oak_spring https://t.co/q33j0KXJpp
This album in the British Museum was just brought to my attention but I have not seen (seems to be pith paper). I know I have seen each of these before - the artist imitated the compositions of earlier 'decorative' & 'scientific' botanical watercolours. https://t.co/Hs5xJUcAAH
/ 2) is actually not an album but a series of paintings, maps and drawings, which the museum attributes to Agote's hand (?). Much seems to be about Manila. 'Dibujos y algunos mapas extraídos de los diarios de estancia y navegación.' https://t.co/Mg4MXLE7pK
On Miguel de Agote, I did not realise the Museo Marítimo Vasco also digitised two albums in their collections. 1) 'Colección de algunos Dioses y Hombres Venerables a quienes los Chinos ofrecen Sacrificios, 1795'

Would a historically accurate short movie of the arrival of Wang Atong to London in 1775 and his reception at the Royal Society (same time as Omai) & portrait by Reynolds be an interesting way to explore Chinese go-betweens in British 18-19th c. making of science? Am I too bold?
Working on 18-19th c. Chinese botanical paintings is both hard work in recognising old botany-related characters & ever-new because of the beauty of some paintings. Here details at Harvard Herbaria:
Natural history of China quizz: Guess where I consulted these late 18th c paintings of Chinese fish?
. There are two articles by Kate Bailey available on Reeves collection of Chinese botanical art in @The_RHS (& a book on the way for next year). Read one of the articles there https://t.co/wtBM9yhjc8
Is there anyone else out there that compulsively consults past auction sales to find data for their research? I look at China Trade art/early photographs of China... look at these garden & botanic related beauties (Bonhams 2009) https://t.co/XYmXBeAXgG
