@EricDrobile The animation in 4 is very good, but doing that kind of work in 1996 AND during gameplay is way more impressive and less common, so that is probably the reason.

@TheGrayKirby Even Origins uses tiles though, of course the UbiArt engine is amazing and you don't see them, but loooking at the texture files you can see how they painted all of that.
Yes you'd work more but in my opinion the result would be worth it.
