@mattwnelson @michaelregina I also keep my scanner set to 31 brightness and 7 contrast, I’ve done this through multiple scanners over the years for my watercolors. You may have tried all of this, I hope any of it helps! Here are some of my watercolors so you can see the overcome.

I did some sketches today of Great Boot in his prime. Great Boot was the ruler of the raccoons before his daughter Old Mag, and he was the great hero of the raccoon/opossum wars. We’re unlikely to meet him in his youth in the comic, but I thought it would be fun to see him!

An early, EARLY painting of the “robber” characters in BCN! Did you know originally the robbers were going to be raccoons? (They come with bandit masks & gloves, lol!) I used to paint these three little raccoons on different adventures and originally meant to roll them into BCN.

This is Gutter, who has one of the coveted positions in the raccoon court: Appraiser. He has one bad eye, which he makes up for with a prized magnifying glass. He is warm and cautious, and seems a little more open to talking to the cats/mice than the other raccoons.

Their leader, Old Mag (Queen Magnet, daughter of the war hero Great Boot), is clever & razor-tongued. She wears a tin pie crust protector w/clothes pins as a sort of post apocalyptic crown. Two spies ride in soup cans at her shoulders, her chickadee friends Chitter and Chatter.
