WICKED THINGS (of 6)

Charming, funny, and easily one of my favorite current pulls. This issue had one panel (not pictured) that made me do an actual, honest-to-goodness spit take. Just fabulous.

THAT TEXAS BLOOD

This debut surprised me 3 times: first with its disarming, slow-burn atmosphere, then with its subtle mix of grim humor and menace, finally with twists that whacked me upside the head. A solid start.

4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK

Finally read this terrific, outrageous crime story: It’s brimming with nerdy tween friendship, dark humor, scandalous violence & some of the best comic SFX ever set to page. I’m dizzy.

UNDONE BY BLOOD

I’m enthralled with this grim, stylish noir-western. The novel woven through it adds a surreal touch, and the pages are just gorgeous.

SPIDER-MAN NOIR (of 5)

Mashing up Spidey, Sam Spade & the Shadow, this pulp-era alternate universe tale swings in with guns blazing, super-cool chiaroscuro art, and fast-talking 1930s movie patter. Love it!

[179] THE LOW, LOW WOODS (of 6)

A queer love triangle, surrealist body horror, and some deeply unsettling scenes. Still not sure what the hell is going on in this town but it keeps me coming back.

[177] FOLKLORDS (of 5)

Walls are breached and stories spin as this fairy tale about fairy tales (and not-quite reliable narrators) spirals ever closer toward a dark, melancholy center.

[170] CANOPUS (of 4)

Stranded hundreds of light years from home, an astronaut confronts multiplying mysteries, surreal horrors, and the chaos of her own fragmented memory. It’s brilliantly different and a visual treat. Get in on this.

[169] BANG!

Just when you think you know what’s going on, the creators of this slippery spy/sci-fi story whack you upside the head and laugh at your naïveté. Then they do it again. A terrific beginning.
