My plan was to spend today writing dialogue, but INSTEAD I spent the day figuring out how to make a custom speech UI so I can have an optional backdrop behind text to make it easier to read.

Digging around the resource files for some Sierra games for research, I was left in awe that Quest for Glory 4's entire forest is only 3 backgrounds, just with various elements turned on and off. Quest for Glory 3 does this too. Amazing and efficient use of space limitation!
