During WW2, de Vasconcellos worked on large sculptures such as 'The Last Chimera' and 'The Hand'. She became the first female fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and was a founding member of the Society of Portrait Sculptors in 1953.

Today for we celebrate the birthday of Alfred Frank Hardiman (1891-1949), born on this day in 1891.

Alfred was born in London, the son of a talented silversmith in Holborn. When he left school he trained as a draughtsman and attended the Central School for Arts and Crafts.

Teaching became a big part of Meadows’ life. He began teaching in 1948 at the Royal College of Art and from 1960-1980 he was Professor of Sculpture there. During this time he taught pupils including Elizabeth Frink.

Moving back to London, Frampton studied at the South London Technical School of Art/ Lambeth School for 2 years before studying . It was here that he won the prestigious gold award and was awarded a travelling scholarship.

The Edward Onslow Ford archive contains 83 photographs and magazine clippings documenting a selection of Ford's completed works. As well as 142 letters, 162 calling cards, and 25 telegrams cover the period immediately following Edward Onslow Ford's death on 23 December 1901.
