Figured out how to use the inverted highlight with the render settings.

If you crank up the specular value, it turns the base color dark and we don't want that.

So, the trick is to connect the highlights to a file node and then just raise the exposure level up to a value of, say, 5 or so.

That way, you can have low specular values and this!
