If anyone is curious, here is a step-by-step how I painted the Emperor of Mankind from 40K. In this case, I paint a bit similar to how a 3D software-engine would render. I start with an underpainting/sketch, and then try to hit a "ambient diffuse" checkpoint before adding light.

Perturabo, Lord of Iron, The Hammer of Olympia. Fanart of one of my favorite bad guys from the Horus Heresy novels. I spent more time rendering the cables than some full character-illustrations I've done XD PS. I still think Dorn would take him in a 1 vs 1 fight ;)
