Today in Comics History: Tom McNamara, the creator of the "Us Boys" comic strip, was born on May 7, 1886. (Outside of his largely forgotten comic strip, McNamara is probably best remembered as a director of "Our Gang" shorts for the Hal Roach studio.)

Beetle Bailey is very big in Scandinavia, with some work produced just for that market. My pal, Danish cartoonist Henrik Kim Rehr, produced these homages using the Beetle cast in iconic musical settings for a magazine over there, and I think they are freaking BRILLIANT.

You know how Scandinavian countries always rank highly for happiness? I suspect one of the reasons is the crossovers between the Katzenjammer Kids and Beetle Bailey produced for their market.
