Today in Comics History: C.D. Russell’s “Pete the Tramp” first appeared on January 10, 1932. The strip enjoyed broad popularity (coming as it did during the Depression, when hobos were a cultural fixture), and the strip ran until Russell’s death in the early 1960s.
