Beautiful example of a parhelion in Sweden yesterday.
Made me wonder why it’s also called a sun dog ?
(perhaps the verb : to hunt/track/follow like a hound)
Also for the moon : a paraselene - or moon dog ✨🌙✨

Bartholomeus Anglicus, De proprietatibus rerum, Toulouse, ca. 1350 (Ste-Geneviève, ms. 1029, fol. 79r)
@AGraveAnnounce @stiffleaf @stbrideschurch In Bordeaux, the crypt in the basilica of St Severinus (Saint-Seurin) is pretty cool (phone photos, sorry).
Many decorated sarcophagi (école dite d’Aquitaine, C5-C7 give or take).
The archeological site of the C4-C13 necropolis can also be visited. The digs started in C19.
@StrayRambler @NellytheWillow @cecilegillard @StroudStory Ohhh ! 💎
And ships ! And an unicorn ! And lots of sea monsters 🥰
I *love* maps. I *love* the fantastic critters depicted in ancient maps. And ships. Obvs.
Have you heard about @AnneLouiseAvery’s great book ? 💎
