And as a finishing touch, they added a gradient overlay that subtly fades out the image at the top and has the unfortunate effect of overexposing the rest of the image so it looks even more like garbage.

So what they did is so stupid I can't fathom why they would even bother. They took the original Maniax box art (which was already a desaturated edit of the original), then added a garish solid red overlay on top of it with Linear Burn blending-

The more I analyze it, the shittier the western box art of SMT Nocturne becomes. I literally know exactly how they made it in Photoshop and that hurts me deeply. I actually made my own 1:1 recreation of it here which I daresay is indistinguishable from the original.

My brother bought me Ciconia for Christmas so now I can just kind of be sad that there will never be a Phase 2 because Ryukishi is too busy writing like a thousand Higurashi spin-offs🙃
