In this battle, SS Kowshing, hoisted Red Ensign, was captured by HIJMS NANIWA and sunk.
British whole nation was furious but famous jurists explained no problem IJN and ceased - Kowshing Incident.

On 24th March 1891, HIJMS HASHIDATE launched at YOKOSUKA Naval yard.
She was youngest sister of MATSUSHIMA class protected cruiser, mounted single 320mm Canet guns designed by Louis-Émile Bertin.
