This artwork by automotive illustrator Frederick Crosby captures the speed and glamour of early motor racing. It shows a 744 cc Austin in 1938.

Our 'J' entry for 's is the jet engine!

Frank Whittle presented his paper on the jet engine in 1945. We have this painting of him testing the engine, though we hope a lot of artistic licence was used / that is not a ground floor window.

in 1830 the Liverpool and Manchester Railway opened. The line included crossing 4.75 miles of Chat Moss. This image depicts a view of Chat Moss with locomotive under steam.
