Freeze Kirby’s outfit appears to be a reference to Popo’s parka. This connection can be made further, as in Super Smash Bros., Kirby’s outfit for copying the Ice Climbers looks identical to Freeze Kirby. Unfortunately, this ability/outfit was eventually replaced with Ice Kirby.

While Super Smash Bros. Melee is the first game to feature a consistent reference for what the Ice Climbers should look like, the first appearance of them in color dates to the original Famicom cartridge, depicting Nana with blonde hair and a slightly different outfit.
