Before I forget, I've been working on this silly project based on a joke since February, and that was 6 months of struggling with finding a good design for Salmon. Here are the other scrapped original ideas.
Over time the idea became less literal.

Despite being an outcast of the Rice People, Salmon has made it her mission to save them from the threat of the Gyojin, and feed the less-fortunate.

Salmon is also one half Gyojin. The ferocious Gyojin, or Fishmen, are the inhabitants of the uncharted Land of the Sea, often times coming out of the ocean to terrorize and eat the inhabitants of the Great Grain Kingdom.

Salmon is one half Rice-person. Rice People are the tiny little peaceful inhabitants of the many villages that make up the Great Grain Kingdom.

RicePeople are usually only 2-3 feet tall.
Salmon is 6'7".
Salmon's mother is nearly 10 feet tall.

This is Salmon, a Sushi-person/sushijin. She was born from the forbidden romance between a riceman and a fishwoman, and lives the life of an outcast, roaming the lands as a swordswoman.

Her hair is white rice dyed in soy sauce. Her neck gills are hidden by her outfit.
