“American manga” is the term I give to Joe Madureira’s amazing style. It has the charm of over the top Japanese character design, with the gnarly grit and harsh angles of 1990s American comics.

Marvel, Battlechasers, Udon, Darksiders; JoeMad is consistently one of my favorites.

Artist Akira Toriyama is well known for his distinctive character style, but his whimsical mechanical designs are fantastic. They have a curvy, retrofuturism vibe that would look at home in an early 60’s scifi movie. They are the right mix of real world and fantasy.
